Re: Osprey Obsession

Shine - Shutter half down, single point, and I was still in Single-Servo when I took this! But normally I use AF-C of course. I know a lot of people swear by back-button focusing but since I've had pretty good success with what I've been doing, I just stick to it. I also already use my BB for exposu...

Re: Who are you?

Hi, Suzanne here from Las Vegas, NV. Prior to living here, I lived in Albany, OR, and Southern California before that. I work as an electronic tech and dabble in the IT world as well, so photography appeals to me being that it combines techie stuff with art stuff. ;) My interest lies in nature photo...

Re: Neighbor's horse

So pretty! And nice and sharp.
We have a lot of wild mustangs here in the desert, I love to photograph them. But mostly they just stand around and munch the scrub, or look at you - I wish I could catch them doing something just a little more interesting, ha ha.

Re: Osprey Obsession

Oh, it's taken tons of practice, trust me! Plus knowing to not bother even taking a shot unless the bird fills your viewfinder at least 1/9 (general rule of thumb), or when you crop in, you will have lousy detail. I was very lucky with this osprey, it flew right over me and that shot is barely cropp...

Osprey Obsession

I'm really kind of obsessed with ALL raptors, truth be known :) The challenge is to get them to fly within reasonable distance of my lens! Here's a shot from today, taken in Henderson, NV. f6.3 500mm, 1/1600s, ISO400 NIkon D7100 Sigma 150-500mm lens. I'm still working on nailing the shots where the ...

Re: Using Luminosity Masks - Beginner's Question :)

Hi, thanks for your response! Yes, Tony Kuyper is one whose website I visited while poking around trying to find info about LMs. I settled on Jimmy McIntrye's page, and signed up to take his short online course. I don't usually do courses but it seemed worthwhile, and he included some PS actions, su...

Using Luminosity Masks - Beginner's Question :)

Hi, I'm just getting started learning to use luminosity masks. I became interested in learning about them because I am hoping that some of my landscape photos, taken in less-than-optimal lighting conditions, can benefit from using LMs to even out and enhance tones. I have an OK grasp on the mechanic...
