Re: Image quality comparison, please

The biggest difference I notice is the first one has more contrast in both luminosity and color. I notice shadow contrast in the dark area of the loft through the opening at top. The rafters are more visible in the second image. You can also see the contrast in the clouds. As for color contrast, tha...

[...] I would be one frustrated old lady trying to find anything without this system. And that's why I tell people to append a short description after the date. That acts as a memory trigger when searching outside of LR. ;) Not disrupting your system too much, I would recommend the following; 2018 ...

[...] BUT... after the fact the analysis can even mathematically lay out chapter-and-verse why a particular composition stands out. (OK) I agree. As you say, in the moment there is little time to think. It's all instinctual. While I can agree with his statement that he didn't know what he had, I'm ...

Re: "Your Kind Is Not Welcome Here"

In retrospect, I am glad I never posted it. Do I find it funny still? You bet, but more as a slap in the face of all the PCers that are overly touchy. I do recognize the thin line delineating vulgarity from polite conversation and I steer clear of any vulgarity or hate speech. I have little toleranc...

Re: Magpie

Let me answer your question in this way, Charles. A client comes into my shop for a tattoo. They start telling me their idea, the story behind it and their immediate concept. While the discussion is occuring my mind is flipping through a library of images that relate, symbolically or literally, with...

Re: "Your Kind Is Not Welcome Here"

I toyed with the notion of creating a Whites Only sign in Photoshop and hanging off the pelicans' log, and a sign that said "Colored" for the cormorants. I grew up with those signs everywhere, and asked lots of questions about them as a child. I'm glad the signs now are confined to museum exhibits ...

Re: Magpie

I am putting together a tutorial on advanced compositional design, or rather, breaking away from the rule of thirds . It's still in development but I thought I'd share a lesson from that upcoming topic here. Take it for what it is, a discussion, and less of a critique. We all know the rule of thirds...
