"Black and white are the colors of photography. To me they symbolize the alternatives of hope and despair to which mankind is forever subjected." —Robert Frank

Re: Car Fire at Walmart

Thanks, everyone, for looking and commenting. It was definitely a moment of pure luck that allowed me to get these shots. Had I been in a clearer mind I would have shot video of it instead. As it was, I did get a little video but not until the fire was out.:-( This is great photojournalism. Freelanc...

Car Fire at Walmart

Coming home from a long day I stopped by the supermarket. On my way out two police cruisers and a fire truck came rushing past me. I immediately pulled in behind them and followed them 1/4 mile up the street to the local Walmart. Curious as to what had brought them there, lights flashing, I immediat...

Stunning. If the family wants "timeless" this image definitely has that.

Re: 'Finger Lickin' Good'

Double entendres are always wonderful when they happen visually. This one specially made me laugh as it rides the 'naughty' cusp. You're right, converting to B&W would have taken so much away from this. My only suggestion is to up the exposure on this. Right now the brightness of Col. Sanders ma...

Re: My Granddaughter Gave Me a Heart-Shaped Leaf

[...] Duck, I don't disagree (exactly), but I thought long about whether to "break proscenium" with her hair and decided it was more effective to do it than not. [...] Honestly, I love this image, flyaway hair and all. That's why my critique wasn't my typical one. My suggestions were more...

I can't think of anything other than in combination with a story. The narrative supports the image and vice versa.

Re: My Granddaughter Gave Me a Heart-Shaped Leaf

Fantastic. I agree that this needs to be printed.
You may want to consider playing with scale and containment, i.e. the flyaway hair breaking the edge of the leaf. See what you get.
Just my two bits.

Re: Kings Bear

The photo is nice.

The photo with the story, however, is engaging.

Some photos stand on their own, others work better in tandem with a story. This is such image. Thanks for the illustrated story.

Okay, now take that photo and superimpose her portrait into it. :-D
That'll make for an awesome keepsake.

Re: Porch Sleeper

I hate images like this for one very simple and selfish reason... it compels me to want to know the story . Who is he and why is he sleeping there? Unfortunately the image doesn't answer that so the mind starts to go off in various directions to try to complete the story. Damn, I'm getting a headach...
