Re: Hi Everyone

Seems like you've been warmly received here and I'll throw my "welcome" into the bunch. Like the others I am impressed by the variation on a theme you have here between photographic image and intarsia art. Very creative and I'd love to see other examples. We hope you enjoy the place and lo...

Re: Sal

I definitely agree with the general consensus that this is a fantastic image. As for you trying it with tadpoles... I assume if you follow the same technique you will get similarly amazing results. I can't wait to see what you capture.

Re: Mansion at Batsto

I really like framing the house within the trees. It creates a sense of space without crowding the house. The lower angle of view adds a majesty befitting the structure, specially with that cupola reaching upwards. One addition that would add a lot of life to this image would be some light coming th...

Re: Girl & Her Violin

YES! Linda pegged the right word... Mesmerising. I kept coming back to the first image trying to figure out what it is that is so captivating about it and I think it's because it dances around being both ambiguous and familiar (even though I am not a musician.) Overall it is a stunning portrait of t...

Re: "Portrait of a Significant Mid-Westerner"

If you don't mind me asking, can this effect be achieved through filters, such as filtering the blue with yellow or orange? I've always been curious. What a wonderful image! S- There are ways of 'faking' an IR image but true infrared photography records a different part of the light spectrum. For e...

Re: "Portrait of a Significant Mid-Westerner"

Very interesting image. I like the fact that you didn't try to lighten the sky as this pulls you right into the main subject.

I have a friend that is pushing me to convert a camera to IR. I'm on the fence but I really love the look of IR.

Thanks for showing us yours.

Re: Darrington, Washington Through the eyes of my drone.

Hi Steve (Thejokerthesmoker), it seems some people know you but welcome to photoMENTORIS anyhow. To make your experience more personal I would like to suggest you put your real name in a signature line that way people can refer to you by your name rather than the lengthy Thejokerthesmoker . Looking ...

Re: Follow-up to "Tension" - a skimmer water bug

Marvelous! There is a great interplay of light on dark/dark on light within this image. As for cropping... there is no easy answer to any suggestions as it's all rather subjective. For me, considering I am a big fan of symmetry, I would like to see them more horizontally leveled with equal spacing a...

Re: When a Chair..

The first thing that came to mind, even before I opened the post, was Edgar Allan Poe's riddle, "why is a raven like a writing desk?" "When is a chair not a chair?" On seeing the image I am first taken by the tranquil nature of the scene. Instantly familiar and classical in natur...

Re: 'DJ Chinn Chilla'

Very cyberpunk-ish. Lots of mood.
I feel the left eye (camera right) is a bit too overworked to bring it out of shadow and seem incongruous with the shadow across the top of his head.
Other than that, I really love this. Even the smoke at the bottom of the frame.
